One day Conflict Management & Personal Safety course
Aims and Objectives
1. Understand the causes and main drivers that lead to conflict
2. Increase awareness of the body's response to conflict and the impact on perception, decision making and response
3. Recognise the signs of increasing tension in others and how early intervention can help to de-escalate a situation
4. Minimise personal risk through dynamic risk assessment, effective communication and response
5. How to stay calm and respond effectively in conflict situations
6. How physical, situational and environmental factors influence a conflict situation
7. Importance of maintaining a safe distance in a challenging situation and considerations if not able to do so
8. Understand the legislation relating to use of force and what is deemed reasonable force
9. Responding to spontaneous physical intervention including use of basic disengagement techniques
Conflict and Violence in the workplace – Decision Making for Managers
The course is designed to aid the assessment of threat and risk to staff impacted by, or likely to be impacted by, violence in the workplace. The model assists in the identification of options and implementation of actions to mitigate identified threat and risk.
Course Content:
1. Requirements of Health and Safety legislation and regulations relating to conflict in the workplace and workplace violence
2. Introduction to a decision-making model, including its structure, application and alignment with Health and Safety risk assessment
3. Detailed explanation of the five key elements of the decision-making process, including the focus of, and considerations applicable to, each element
4. Practical application of the model to assess threat and risk, identify options and implement actions to mitigate identified threats and risk
5. Recording of decisions and rationale in support of decisions made
6. Conducting reviews of incidents and validity of mitigations
7. Exercises to provide learners with the opportunity to apply the various stages of the model to practical scenarios affecting their business.
Online Training
For those of you that cannot attend face to face conflict management and personal safety training, SYSK Training has a course that mirrors the face to face course.
The online course has been developed in partnership with the owner of 'Riscsservices,' who is a Charted Health & Safety practitioner and expert in the field of Health & Safety. The course comes with a free additional facility of a 5 minute video summarising the key points of the course that can be held on a mobile phone or tablet and accessed at any time as a quick and easy reference and reminder of the course content.
Critical Incident and Risk Management Training
This one day course is packed with practical advice on managing critical incidents and risk. On this course the learner will receive input on:
1. Considerations when dealing with critical/serious incidents
2. Leadership and setting up a command and reporting structure
3. Dynamic risk assessment and effective planning
4. Effective Decision Making and recording
5. Working with the Emergency Services
6. De-briefing and learning lessons
Self-Defence Training
This is a practical course aimed at anyone who wants to learn how to defend themselves in a situation where they are being physically attacked or are at imminent risk of being physically attacked by a person intending to cause them injury or harm.
This course provides attendees with some basic tools to help them to:
1. Assess situations
2. Take evasive action to avoid being assaulted
3. Respond and defend themselves
The course provides the learner with an understanding of the basic elements of Conflict Management & Personal Safety including:
1. The drivers and influences that can lead to and escalate conflict
2. The human body’s reaction when faced with conflict
3. The practical application of de-escalation tactics to minimise personal risk in conflict situations
The course is packed with practical advice to defend against an attack. The learner will receive input that includes:
1. Do’s and Don’ts to mitigate risk
2. How to reduce risk factors
3. The body’s natural weapons and how to use them in self-defence
4. Where to strike and how to strike effectively to defend oneself
5. How everyday items can be used as weapons
6. Use of force legislation relating to self-defence
